The Thomas Edison Technology Centers 2011 Newsletter
While each of Ohio’s seven Edison Centers has distinct geographic, industry, and technology responsibilities, we often work together on the same project due to the way industry is shaped today. For example, a manufacturer that needs specific material and joining technology to produce molds for a new biopolymer product might bring together the best and the brightest at four or more Edison Centers.
What a wonderful advantage for Ohio citizens and companies. Can any other state match this approach? I don’t think so. But our pride in helping to bring a new technology, a new product or even a new company to life is usually matched with a minor but persistent frustration: How do we explain exactly what it is that we do? Last year was challenging for all of us. Governments, corporations, organizations, and families all worked to squeeze every ounce of value from every dollar. As we begin 2011, these austerity measures seem to be paying off. While far from robust, the economic outlook seems healthier now than at anytime since 2007. But make no mistake; serious financial challenges remain on the road back to a healthy and vibrant Ohio economy. And since experts agree that successful health and wellness must be disciplined and balanced, we’re continuing with that approach to ensure a vibrant Edison Center program while maintaining a balanced budget....
